The easy to explain concept pitch is “Sons of Unicron”. The reality is far, far more detailed.
As Lucas did when he created “Star Wars”, and as the Wachowski Siblings did when they created “The Matrix”, we’ve looked at all our favourite media and influences over the past five decades while creating this project. These programs, comics, movies and video games we’ve experienced and loved over the years have been percolating away, fertilising our feeble minds until something amazing has taken root.
While there are certain aspects of shows such as “Sons of Anarchy” and “The Transformers” that may feel immediately obvious with this project, other less obvious influences will become apparent as the property grows and the fans get to experience more of the universe. How many of these influences have been consciously homaged, and how many remain a project of subconscious cultural osmosis remains to be seen. If you like what we do, then we totally planned it. If not, then it was the other guys fault.
Unrustable Bastards is a love letter to the minds of Akira Kurosawa and David Lynch, to David Simon and Osamu Tezuka, to J. Michael Straczynski and Morecambe and Wise, to Garth Ennis and Louis CK, to Shigeru Miyamoto and John Lasseter, to Bill Hicks and Kurt Cobain (1994 was a bad year), to Hideo Kojima and Kelsey Grammer, to Stephen Hawking and Stephen King, to KISS and Joss Whedon, to Frank Herbert and Sylvester Stallone, to David Mamet and Quentin Tarantino…
Eclectic? Yes. And that’s only a fraction of the people who have influenced, informed and inspired us over the years.
Thanks guys. We like to think that in a small way, we’re finally giving back.
